Election Problems:

• Voters turned away at the precinct, were told they had already voted. (They had not).
• Hundreds of deceased voters still on the voter rolls. (Proof obituary).
• Convicted felons on the voter rolls also voting.
• Voters who requested change of address/moved & are still on voter rolls. (Some voted).
• Citizens from bordering states voting in Alabama elections.
• Underage voting.
• Citizens can not verify their own vote.
• Voter rolls are held & controlled in Omaha Nebraska.
• Local registrars log into a system in Nebraska and make adjustment, not in control.
• Non-citizens on voter rolls and voting.
• Tabulators take pictures of the paper ballot and those images “ARE NOT KEPT” as part of the election process. Votes are counted from this image.
• Abuse of absentee voting.
• Precincts not posting results on doors after election. Not following the law.
• Voting tabulators not being tested based on current standards.
• Poll pads are connected to the internet. All tabulators have internet capabilities.

Root Causes:

• Using an election system that is vulnerable, broken & unverifiable.
• Use of a system that is hackable. Backdoor in the software makes this easy to do.
• Control from county registrar’s office removed with computerized system.
• Voter rolls are inflated & not accurate
• Citizen oversight was already dismal in Alabama due to lack of data on the voter rolls. HB67 (law effective 6/1/26) has further restricted citizen oversight. NO TRANSPARENCY!
• The cost of the voter rolls for citizen oversight deters citizens from participating in their civic duty. (Free in many other states or no more than $200.) Up until 6/1/26 in Alabama they were about $38,000. LET THAT SINK IN!
• Government grants accepted by counties/state to adopt use of computerized system.

Solutions:

• Return control of Alabama elections to the counties again. Where they live and know their citizens.
• Real Audits require hand counting the ballots to verify the election and determine if the machines counted correctly. Without hand counting the machines are not verifiable and proven accurate.
• Require all ballot images to be maintained and used for verification. Ballot images and thumb drives used on election days; to be maintained within our state.  Not sent back to the voting company, wiped cleaned and used over again.
• Precincts required to follow the law, by posting the election results on the doors of building where election is held for citizens to see.
• If a precinct does not balance at the end of the evening. That precinct cannot report until this discrepancy is reconciled.  Candidates can and have lost by 1 vote.
• Hand counting is accurate, extremely cost effective (can save counties/state a lot of money), easy and a civic duty. Ask for volunteers and if enough citizens are not signed up then use the same system currently used for Jury duty.
• Restore Trust, Confidence & Transparency to the Voters. The elections belong to the people not the politicians/elected officials.
• Most other countries hand count their ballots. The US is one of the few that still uses computerized vote counting.  Germany, Norway, Netherlands, France, Canada, Denmark, Italy, United Kingdom, Ireland, Spain, Portugal, Sweden, Finland.  These countries protect the integrity and trust of their elections with publicly observable hand-counting of paper ballots.  We should too!
