State Auditor Andrew Sorrell recently discussed election integrity concerns during an appearance on The Yaffee Program, pointing to a municipal election in Fort Deposit as an example of what he believes warrants further investigation. According to Sorrell, the town's August election recorded more than 1,000 votes despite having a population of approximately 900, with more than half of the ballots reportedly cast absentee.
During the interview, Sorrell argued that the Fort Deposit case is not an isolated incident and said voter fraud receives less public attention than it deserves. He also emphasized that, in his view, election fraud is not limited to one political party, stating that both Republican and Democratic elections can be vulnerable to illegal activity. As a candidate for Alabama Secretary of State, Sorrell said he would establish an election integrity division to investigate and address these concerns.
